2007年，一位名叫亚当扬（AdamYoung）的美国大学二年级学生在明尼苏达州创建了猫头鹰之城乐队，亚当扬是该乐队的唯一成员，乐队的创作、编曲、作词、混音合成、主唱全由亚当扬担任。乐队成立不久，便发行了首张EP《Of June》。2008年乐队发行了首张专辑《Maybe I’m Dreaming》。2009年，乐队先后发行了单曲《Hot Air Balloon》、《Strawberry A valanche》，2009年7月14日乐队发行了全新专辑《Ocean Eyes》，其中专辑的主打歌曲《Fireflies》更是一举跃上美国Billboard榜单的冠军宝座和itunes下载排名的冠军位置。

在这个炎炎夏季到来之时，没有什么比Adam的小电音更加解渴了，Owl City最大的特点就是电音与主唱声线的平分秋色，二者比例协调的恰到好处，完美的勾勒出不落俗套的小清新画面，致使一开始听并不能很快分辨出是男声还是女声，但却不令人反感，上口动人的旋律反而让人爱不释手，欲罢不能，说来也奇怪Owl City的声音有种奇妙之处，冬季听有种温暖质感，夏季听又有一种凉爽畅快，这样的特质还真是不可多得，也很难想象这样充满欢快感觉的作品都是Adam在地下室里为了避免失眠而创作出来的，也许是因为防止失眠，便多了梦境一般的童话特质。
