《禅宗少林音乐大典》演出规模宏大，音画一体，近600人的禅武演绎，少林僧侣的现场唱颂，春夏秋冬的景观变化，直指心性的佛乐禅音，合成了中岳嵩山辉煌的交响。
音乐大典《禅宗少林》
禅宗少林为大型文化演出项目，项目选址在距登封市西十公里的待仙沟，距少林寺7公里。由曾获得奥斯卡原创音乐奖的谭盾提纲艺术总监和音乐原创；由成功策划《印象刘三姐》的著名策划人梅帅元制作；厦门大学教授易中天任禅学顾问；少林寺方丈释永信任少林寺文化顾问；著名舞蹈学家黄豆豆任舞蹈编导。
音乐大典《禅宗少林》的创作历时一年多，是河南历史上投资最大的文化旅游项目，总投资3．5亿元。演出按音乐结构排列，由《水乐》、《木乐》、《光乐》、《风乐》、《石乐》五个乐章构成。
《禅宗少林》五大乐章
第一乐章《水乐》
溪山坐禅
踏水行歌
演出有水而起，我们约僧人一道坐禅，达摩的身影在禅境里出现，村姑浣女从唐诗里走来，菩提树的唱吟，空山雨后的喧闹，僧与俗的对话，一切都在溪流声中化成清凉禅意,流进我们心底……

少林木鱼功
风幡心动
木鱼是佛门法器，作曲家却把它变成了音乐。多声部的木鱼演奏讲述着少林武僧成长的历程：顽皮的少年，刚强的壮年，修持的晚年……传说中的牧羊女赶着羊群走来了，歌声打破木鱼的禅定，给这片佛国净土带来人间的美丽。禅，于是有了世俗的解释……

寺院的风铃
山岳风涛
风铃、风拳、风棍、风旗，少林武术掀起了山岳林涛。刹那间我们感悟到天地之大美，这是武术的展示，也是山河的画卷。

春夏秋冬，季节在音乐里轮回，寒山、古寺、塔影，山月，一幅幅图画在眼前掠过……而梅花桩上的武僧似乎突破了生命的限制，向上伸展，化成天地精灵，飞翔于永恒……

圆满的禅颂
采集嵩山石头，制成奇妙的乐器，奏出天地祥和之音。少林乐僧的唱颂在山林中响起，庄严而舒缓。这是禅对自然的吟咏，对生命的眷爱，对天地万物的礼赞！

《禅宗少林》解析
《水乐》是演出的诗境篇，它描绘了中国古典山水名画的优美禅意，以《溪山行旅》《听泉抚琴》《踏水行歌》三章构成。雨景与溪流，月光与禅院，僧侣与农家，禅诗与野唱，构成和谐完美的人间生活图景。◆《木乐 禅定》千年古刹，木鱼声声，叙说着少林武僧的传闻i故事；传说中的牧羊女走来了，歌声打破了木鱼的禅定，给这片佛国净土带来了人间的魅美丽。◆《风乐》演绎的是禅宗祖庭少林寺的传奇故事，由“达摩面壁”开始，讲述千年古风的承传。而在嵩山实景间以全新方式演绎的少林武术，在禅与武之间行走，一动一静，亦文亦武，浑然天成，构成“万壑松风”的壮丽景象。风铃、风拳、风棍、风旗
《光乐》是演出的华彩乐章，它以顿悟的形式直面生命本体。雪景寒林，佛光塔影，远逝高僧在幻境中出现，向我们讲述禅宗故事，引导我们参透生死，彻悟人生。而吉祥的灯佛与世俗生活的交叠场面，表达了禅宗对生命万物的肯与礼赞。
《石乐》是演出的唱颂篇，它用36亿年的嵩山古石制成乐器，奏出了“嵩山修禅，顽石开言”的大境界，而石乐礼佛，天花乱坠的奇异景象，将音乐大典演出推向高潮。演出结束时巨大的中岳佛山将现身云端，佛光普照，天地祥和。
