本书从语用学角度对刻意曲解这一交际策略进行了定性分析。不同于误解中的无意的信息传递,刻意曲解是语言使用者在会话交际中为了达到某种交际目的,有意利用某种特殊的语境和对方话语中的含糊的、不确定的表达方式,歪曲对方的话语意图,以便达到某种交际效果的一种语用策略。本书从三个方面研究刻意曲解的动态特性,即,使用刻意曲解的前提条件、刻意曲解的实现方式、刻意曲解的功能。刻意曲解的前提条件包括:交际双方的信息共知、对最佳关联的寻求以及刻意曲解的触发语。语言使用者实现刻意曲解方式有两个:故意违反同一律和故意脱离或改变语境。而语言使用者使用刻意曲解策略的功能是实现语境顺应和交际意图。
