故事讲述艾迪从小就是个玩牌高手，所以他的好朋友，肥皂、汤姆和培根决定各凑两万五千英镑，让艾迪去参加一场黑社会高额赌金的牌局。

艾迪从头到尾不知道，其实整个赌局根本就是个大骗局。于是艾迪不但输光所有的钱，还倒欠赌场主人五十万英镑。艾迪在一个星期内不能还清，他和他朋友们的手指和他老爸的酒吧都将不保。

朋友们商量如何筹到钱来还债，甚至想到“老玻璃俱乐部”这个超级搞笑的创意。

艾迪酒后回家，打开衣橱的门，无意中听到隔壁吸毒者的抢劫计划，狠角色们打算抢劫他们胆小又富有的毒品供应商，于是诞生了螳螂捕蝉，黄雀在后的行动——不费多大事，反正就在隔壁。

为了行动去买枪。在淅沥的小雨里，汤姆跟尼克讨价还价，“枪管太长了不是吗？”“锯短的卖完了”。最后汤姆用700元买了两把价值共50万以上的古董枪。

吸毒者们带着重型机枪打劫，过程很辛苦，笑料百出。当然最后他们成功的弄到了一大笔钱、一车毒品、一个交通警察。毒犯生产者钱多的超乎意料，用熨斗熨的平平整整…

避开警察，吸毒者们成功的回到处所，艾迪和他的3个伙伴也早已拿着古董枪在那里等待他们，并且成功的将吸毒者抢来的大麻加现金反抢回去。

艾迪将到手的大麻通过一个熟人卖给一个当地的毒品供应商，没想到艾迪抢来的大麻，就是吸毒者从毒品供应商那抢来的。

毒品供应商得知自己的大麻被抢，并且强盗还自己上门再卖给自己，气不打一处来的毒品供应商带着一帮人到艾迪的家准备将他们全杀了。

与此同时，艾迪的邻居，也就是那些打劫者也无意中得知抢他们的就是自己的邻居。他们也在同时埋伏在艾迪家准备要将艾迪他们杀了。幽默的是，艾迪和他的朋友却正在酒吧回来的路上。

故事戏剧化的发展下去，毒品供应商和吸毒者全都死了，艾迪回来时看到的是满地的尸体……

哈奇特哈里用那把古董枪射击加里的背景音乐，是电影《黄昏双镖客》Per qualche dollaro in più（1965）。这是印第奥用来演奏的一个表袋，当音乐结束的时候，他会拿出手枪并且杀死某个人。

在酒吧里的足球比赛解说词中，提到了编剧兼导演的名字盖里奇和制片人马修沃恩。

林尼迈克可林在成为演员之前，是一个名声大振的搏击手。

维尼琼斯开始拍摄的这一天，他刚刚从警察局那里保释出来，此前因为殴打邻居而被警察逮捕。

英超球星迈克尔欧文的第一个英超点球，也是他为利物浦正式比赛打入的第二球，这个点球是由于维尼琼斯的犯规造成的！

电影开拍之前,盖里奇让这些演员聚集在一起打了一场五人足球赛,到场的时候还来了另外一个大牌,罗比威廉姆斯,分成三组,结果毫无悬念,维尼琼斯所在的五人队轻松胜出,虽然他搭配的都是球盲,胜利的原因可以用另一队的弗莱彻的话来解释,他说:"每当我带球的时候,看到维尼过来,我都脚打抖,于是他每次都能抢走我的球,而守门的队员早在维尼射门的前一分钟就跑了."

穿帮镜头

当哈奇特和他的同伙被杀死，汤姆在办公室内四处张望的时候，哈奇特他们两个人都很明显可以看到还在呼吸，尽管他们应该已经死去。

连贯性：在电影结尾的时候，汤姆戴着一顶羊毛帽子，可以在很多镜头中看到其中的长头发。这和他之前整部影片中的寸板头发不一致。

连贯性：就在普兰克被气枪射中之前，我们看到他向右边转过去他的左脸暴露着。但当他被射中后，在特写镜头中显示他护着自己的右脸。

连贯性：当哈奇特?哈里和巴里被杀死后，在哈里后面的窗户往外可以看到黑夜背景中的霓虹灯，这只能出现在晚上。虽然当时的事情是发生在白天，这点在接下来的镜头中可以看到，埃迪和汤姆走进一栋建筑物里。

英国导演盖里奇的处女作，风格近似《猜火车》，但却更胜一筹。本片连演员部分，导演都大胆启用非专业演员，其中部分演员更是生平第一次演出。是一部极具实验性质的影片。<两杆老烟枪>筹划超过两年,从最开始的预算二千万,直降到只有八万英镑,制片人害怕再下去会一毛都不留,就只拿着这鸿毛一样的资金开拍了,漫长的等待过程让许多演员都轮翻下走,包括有名的雷克劳德,最后留下来幸运儿都是些不起眼的角色演员,还有戏剧演员,甚至还有足球运动员,这其中有德克斯特弗莱彻,尼克莫瑞恩,贾森斯塔森 ,这三人后来都成了盖里奇的专用演员,就如林雪与杜琪峰的关系。

所有的演员中,两个人的名气最大,一是著名的歌手STING,这应该是看麦姐的面子而加入进来客串的,另一位大牌叫维尼琼斯,当然这所谓的大牌是在足球场上,这个牛猛的男人曾效力过英超的足球俱乐部温布尔登，维尼琼斯现在还保持着英超一项纪录,"最快红牌罚下",当年有一场比赛,
