父母都是韩国人，三岁时离家前往美国，后曾在加州大学洛杉矶分校学习法律。1999年通过影片《Mystery Men》而登台，此后Justin Lin执导的《Better Luck Tomorrow》（2002）和《The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift》（2006）出演了两个都叫做han的角色，2005年担任影片《the motel》主角，此外还在《幸福》、《Cold Case》、《without a trace》、《Standoff》、《CSI: Miami》等多部电视剧中客串亮相。2006年成康出席了釜山国际电影节的“Asian Faces in Hollywood”活动，2007年则因在《虎胆龙威4》中出演FBI的网络搜查队员而引起了更多的注意。
