主编丹克鲁克香克（Den Cruickshank）和3名顾问、14名撰稿人共同编撰了本书的第20版，也是世纪版，对其中许多章节进行了改动和扩展，并增辑三分之一的篇幅，有关中东（包括以色列），东南亚、印度次大陆、东欧、拉美地区以及俄罗斯、中国（包括香港特别行政区）、日本、朝鲜等国的20世纪建筑的一些新章节。本书的内容广泛扩展，包括许多非欧洲国爱的建筑。20世纪以前的内容，目前有六章是关于伊斯兰建筑的。
