影片的背景是美国经济大崩溃始的1929年，美国一个不知名的城市，黑帮老大李奥和他的助手汤姆同时爱上了伯尼的妹妹维娜，这两个情同手足的伙伴处于了对立之中。另一个帮派的老大卡斯珀想要除掉伯尼，他主动向汤姆提出代他偿还赌债。汤姆瞒着卡斯珀放过了伯尼，并帮他躲藏起来。不料伯尼却要挟汤姆要他干掉卡斯珀，否则他就要重新公开露面。经过一系列复杂的事件演变，卡斯珀死在了伯尼手中，而伯尼也被愤怒的汤姆杀掉。在伯尼的葬礼上，维娜拒绝了汤姆的求爱。但李奥相信了汤姆的忠心，并主动原谅了他的过失，两人重归于好。

剧情简介
